A Year in Bali, Just for the Ocean

This blog is based on the youtube post - Talking to Strangers in Canggu "Street Interview"

On a windy afternoon in Canggu, we met someone quietly sitting by the beach.

No camera. No rush. Just a book… and the ocean.

His name is Alexa. He came from Russia and he has been living in Bali for about a year.

Not working. Not chasing anything.

Just… living.

At first, it sounded simple.

Too simple, even.

But the more we talked to him, the more we realized something:

Sometimes, people don’t come to Bali for something big. They come for something we often overlook.

“I like everything about it.”

When we asked him what he loves most about Bali, he didn’t hesitate.

“The ocean. The weather. The beach… I like everything about it.”

For him, Bali is not about luxury. Not about trends. Not about “must-visit” places.

It’s about something very personal.

Something quiet.

Beaches… But Not Like This

Coming from Russia, he told us something interesting.

“There are lots of beaches there… but none of them are tropical.”

That one sentence says a lot.

For many locals in Bali, the beach is just… normal. Something we pass by. Something we grew up with.

But for him?

It’s something he chose to live next to.

Every single day.

A Different Kind of Life

Alexa lives alone in Bali.

His days are simple.

Reading books by the ocean. Feeling the wind. Watching the waves.

He even said:

“It is a bit tough to concentrate… given how pretty everything is around.”

Imagine that.

Struggling to focus… because life is too beautiful.

Not Exploring Everything And That’s Okay

Interestingly, he doesn’t travel much around Bali.

He mostly stays in Canggu.

And yet… he's happy.

This is something important.

You don’t need to “complete” Bali. You don’t need to go everywhere.

Sometimes, one place… is enough.

Bali Is for Everyone

He loves simple things :

Chicken satay. Warm weather. The ocean breeze.

Nothing complicated.

And that’s the point.

Bali is not just for:

  • influencers

  • luxury travelers

  • party seekers

Bali is also for:

  • people who want to slow down

  • people who want to breathe

  • people who just want to sit by the ocean and read a book

What We Can Learn From Him

Maybe the most important takeaway is this :

We often search for something far away… While others travel across the world to experience what we already have.

Bali is not just a destination.

It’s a feeling.

And sometimes, it takes someone from far away… to remind us how special it really is.

Final Thought

“I like everything about it.”

Simple words.

But maybe that’s the beauty of Bali.

It doesn’t need to be complicated.
