Bali Feels Like Home For Different People

Sometimes the most interesting thing about Bali is not the places.
It’s the people who come here with completely different lives, backgrounds, and expectations… yet somehow all find their own version of happiness here.
One family from Australia had already spent more than two years living in Bali with their children. For them, Bali wasn’t just a holiday destination anymore. It became part of daily life. Their kids grew up playing near the beach, finding sea creatures, and enjoying simple moments together as a family.
Another visitor from Latvia described Bali as “full of contrast,” saying it felt like there was “something too much and something missing at the same time.” Yet despite the chaos, they still called the experience unforgettable.
What stood out was how differently people experienced Bali.
Some loved the beaches.
Some loved the cooler mountains in Bedugul.
Some loved riding scooters through small islands.
Some simply loved watching their kids enjoy life more freely.
And maybe that’s why Bali continues to attract people from all over the world.
Not everyone comes to Bali looking for luxury.
Not everyone wants beach clubs or crowded cafés.
Some people just want slower mornings.
Warmer weather.
Nature. Time with family.
Or simply a different feeling from home.
One Australian father even said:
“Here in Sanur is perfect for raising kids.”
That sentence feels simple, but it says a lot.
Because Bali is not only for surfers, influencers, or honeymooners.
Bali can also be:
a place for families,
a place for healing,
a place for quiet living,
a place for adventure,
or even just a temporary escape from winter and busy cities.
That’s what makes Bali special.
Different people can experience completely different versions of the same island.
And maybe as locals, sometimes we forget how meaningful even small things here can feel for visitors: the beach breeze, kids riding bicycles in Sanur, finding a sea urchin at Mengiat Beach, or simply watching a sunset without rushing home.
Bali is not perfect.
But for many people, Bali gives something they feel is missing somewhere else.
And that’s why people keep coming back.
In part 2, the conversations continue with even more unexpected stories from people discovering Bali in completely different ways.
