On a warm afternoon near the skatepark at Beachwalk Kuta, Ryan met a visitor from Russia who had just arrived in Bali for his New Year holiday. He had only been on the island for a few days, but even in that short time, Bali had already left an impression on him.
When asked about beaches in Russia, his answer surprised us.
“Yes, we have beaches in Russia… but they only really work about one month a year.”
Because of the cold climate, beach season in Russia is extremely short. When the weather finally becomes warm enough, everyone rushes to the same few places. The result is crowded beaches and very little space to relax.
For many Russians, this is one reason they travel abroad.
Bali, on the other hand, offers something very different. The warm weather, the ocean, and the tropical atmosphere create an experience that simply doesn’t exist in many colder countries. Even though Bali can feel very hot, he said it is still a refreshing change compared to the freezing winters back home.
“Here in Bali it’s hot, but it’s nice compared to Russia where it’s very cold.”
Interestingly, what impressed him the most about Bali was not just the beaches. As someone who has traveled to other tropical destinations before, he noticed something unique about this island.
“The beaches are wonderful, but they’re quite the same like Thailand. The mountains, rice terraces, and jungles make Bali unique.”
That simple observation says a lot.
Many visitors come to Bali expecting only beaches. But once they start exploring, they discover that the island offers far more: green rice terraces, misty mountains, waterfalls hidden in the jungle, and small villages full of life and culture.
For travelers from colder parts of the world, Bali feels like a completely different universe. A place where nature is everywhere and where the landscape constantly changes from coastlines to forests to highlands.
And this is exactly why people from all over the world keep coming.
Stories like this remind us of something important: sometimes the things we see every day in Bali are actually extraordinary to people visiting from far away.
For someone who can only enjoy the beach once a year back home, simply standing by the ocean in Bali can already feel like a luxury.
Bali is not just a destination for a certain type of traveler. It’s a place where people from very different climates, cultures, and lifestyles can all find something meaningful.
From sunny beaches to cool mountains, from rice terraces to quiet jungles Bali offers experiences that people around the world dream about.
And hearing visitors share these perspectives helps us see our island with fresh eyes.
Because sometimes, the best way to understand how special a place is…is to listen to someone who traveled thousands of kilometers just to experience it.
