When an Italian Flies Across the World… Just to Fish in Bali

One morning in Sanur, we met a man from Italy. He had just arrived the day before. And this wasn’t his first time in Bali.

What makes it interesting?

He didn’t come for Canggu. Not for beach clubs. Not for parties.

He came back for one thing: fishing.

“This is my second time.”

A simple sentence. But meaningful.

Many people visit Bali once for a holiday. He came back.

Why?

Because on his first trip, his fishing plan was cancelled due to a small problem.

“I had to cancel… so I’m back to go fishing properly.”

He returned to Bali just to finish an experience that felt incomplete.

That’s not just tourism.That’s intention.

Why Sanur?

When asked why he chose Sanur instead of Canggu, his answer was very clear:

“Mostly because I will go fishing tomorrow.”

From Sanur, many fishing charters head to Nusa Penida. And he wasn’t going casually.

“We go especially for giant trevally fish.”

He knew exactly what he wanted. He came with purpose.

Bali vs Italy

We asked how fishing compares in Italy.

“It’s popular, but it’s not tropical like here.”

He smiled while explaining.

“The best fishing spots are probably tropical islands.”

For him, Bali isn’t just a destination. It’s a rare tropical marine environment.

He mentioned Raja Ampat. He mentioned Komodo.

“If I had more days, I would try Komodo… It’s like paradise.”

Imagine that.

Even after fishing in Australia — which he described as:

“Wild and untouched nature.”

— Bali and Indonesia still stand out in his mind.

Bali Is Not One Type of Experience

This story matters for us, especially for locals.

Sometimes we assume tourists come to Bali for:

  • Parties

  • Beach clubs

  • Instagram photos

But the reality is much broader.

Some come for:

  • Surf

  • Yoga

  • Diving

  • Hiking

  • Spiritual retreats

  • And… fishing.

Bali is not built for one type of visitor.

Bali is:

  • For those who love quiet mornings

  • For those who seek adventure

  • For those who love the ocean

  • For those who need reflection

  • For those who want to return again

Don’t Be Afraid of the World That Comes

Sometimes we worry about change. We worry about crowds. We worry that Bali is becoming “too international.”

But stories like this remind us:

Many people come not to damage, but to experience.

Not to replace, but to appreciate.

A man from Italy traveled thousands of kilometers just to enjoy the ocean that many of us pass every day.

Maybe we need to see Bali again with fresh eyes.

Bali Is For Everyone

From Sanur to Nusa Penida. From giant trevally to dreams of Komodo.

This simple conversation shows something powerful:

Bali is not only for influencers. Not only for digital nomads. Not only for party seekers.

Bali is open for anyone who comes with genuine passion.

And perhaps, as locals, we don’t need to be afraid.

The world isn’t coming to take Bali away. The world is coming because Bali is worth loving.
