Why Australians Keep Coming Back to Bali

Under the hot Seminyak sun, we met a man from Sydney. His name is Roger.
It wasn’t his first time in Bali. Not even his second.
He’s been here many times.
And what’s interesting is… he didn’t come to “explore everything.”
A Different Kind of Bali Experience
Roger isn’t the type of traveler chasing every viral spot. He’s already been to the mountains, the north, the black sand beaches, even volcanic areas.
He’s seen Bali.
So this time?
He chose to do less.
“We just come for a holiday… we have a villa with a pool, we swim, we eat… that’s it.”
For some people in Bali, that might sound too simple. But that’s exactly what makes it meaningful.
Bali Is Not Always About Exploring
We often think Bali is about going everywhere. Finding new places. Chasing new views.
But from Roger’s perspective:
“I don’t think that’s lazy… I say it’s a very nice use of energy.”
To him, Bali is not about doing more. It’s about slowing down.
From Busy Life to Slow Living
Back in Australia, life is active. Motorcycles, routines, constant movement.
But in Bali, everything shifts.
“When I’m home in Australia, I do lots of things… here we just relax.”
And maybe this is something we sometimes forget as locals.
Bali is not just a destination. It’s a feeling.
Why Bali Feels Special for Them
When asked about the difference between Bali and Sydney, he kept it simple:
Sydney is big, busy, and fast
Bali feels warm, relaxed, and like a holiday
“It’s holiday type weather… just enough to make it feel like a holiday.”
And there’s another reason:
“It’s very good value… cheaper than staying in a similar place in Sydney.”
Bali is not just beautiful. It’s also accessible.
Bali Feels Familiar, Not Foreign
Roger shared that it’s not just him who comes to Bali.
His family comes too. So do many people around him.
At some point, Bali becomes more than a destination.
“It’s a home base for holidays.”
Not something new.But something you return to.
Not Everyone Comes to Bali for the Same Reason
What stood out the most?
That day, Roger didn’t even have a plan.
“We just walk… we have no idea what’s down here.”
Maybe the beach.Maybe a cold drink.Maybe just enjoying the day.
That’s it.
Bali Is For Everyone
From Roger’s story, one thing becomes clear:
There is no single way to enjoy Bali.
Some people explore
Some people create content
Some people search for hidden gems
And some people… just rest
And all of it is valid.
For Those of Us Living in Bali
Sometimes, we forget.
The things that feel normal to us…are exactly what others travel far to experience.
Not because Bali is perfect. But because Bali gives space to:
pause
breathe
and just be
Maybe Bali isn’t about “Where should I go next?”
Maybe it’s about:
“How does it feel when you’re here?”
And for Roger, the answer is simple:
“It’s an easy holiday.”
